The article is concerned with religious predicates, or descriptors forming part of the religious name in some orders. It examines the predicates given in the Congregation of the Sisters of the Immaculate Conception (in Polish called: niepokalanki) between 1859 and 1912. The aim of the paper was to carry out an onomastic analysis of 85 predicates vested in 459 sisters, and to try to reach their motivations or possible connections between the given predicates and the extralinguistic reality. The analysis has shown that the predicates of the nuns in the period under study were often strongly related to the life of the Catholic Church, and were meant to reflect the charism of the congregation.
