The article aims at take a holistic look at Polish regional anthroponomastic research, summarise the achievements in this field to date and indicate the prospects for such analyses in the future. Based on the aforementioned monographs, lexicons, and articles, the thematic, territorial and chronological scope of regional research was presented. The paper also outlines methodological aspects, and points to the need for continuing analyses aimed at the most complete anthroponymic characteristics of macroregions. Names in the region (especially in border areas) are indicators of the cultural, linguistic/dialectal, ethnic, and religious diversity of its inhabitants, as well as signs of historical-political and socio-cultural reality. For regional research, the development of syntheses and dictionaries of personal names of the population of the various historical-geographical lands of Poland, as postulated in the article, would be of great value.
